Korea: Bongeunsa temple in Seoul

If you are visiting Seoul and want to get a short overview of   a Buddhit temple in Korea, you should go to Bongeunsa temple.

The temple is quite impressive, because located in middle of Seoul (next to Gangnam!) and is still quiet and peaceful. But the main interest of this place is the high statue of Boudha which dominates several buildings of the temple.

But Bongeunsa is also very interesting because it can be easy for a foreigner to feel the local spirit and mindset of the place. People can come there to pray, meditate or for funerals. During the chinese new year, I even received free tea, cakes and a piece of paper with chinese characters to protect the house. Even if it's not the most traditional temple that you can find in Korea, it would still be a very good experience to go there one hour in the morning or the afternoon,

Another very interesting activity in this place: temple stay. It really suprised me when I learnt that anybody can stay for days in the temple, eating, sleeping and living with monks. I m sure I will try this very soon, and I know this is possible in Bongeunsa temple. You can get very easly information about this program there. Otherwise, you can ask for more details or book in advance on this website. Why, when and how going there? It's here!
