Russia: Moscow Metro

If I have to give very short feedback about my 1 week travel in Moscow, the first thing that I will talk about would be the subway. I have to say that I was indeed really amazed by Moscow Metro. Taking the subway there makes you travelling 50 years ago, during the communist area, and can be compared to a huge museum. The subway was built before the second world war and was used as a symbol of communism power. Even today, some stations still look like palaces. The most beautiful stations are certainly Kiewskaya, Komsomolskaya, Taganskaya and Krasnopresnenkaya.

You probably get some difficulties to read these names, but keep in mind that there is not that much english information in the Moscow Metro (and this is not really suprising!) Hopefully, you can sometimes easly compare english words and russian ones. For example: Komsomolskaya =  Комсомо́льская. Ok, it,s not that clear, but at least, there is some letters that you can understand!

Moscow subway is also very clean (at least compare to Paris Metro), and quite safe (regarding the number of police patrols that you will meet there!). The thing that I really prefered is to find communists relics almost everywhere. Lenin and glorious comrads of the soviet union will be pleased to welcome you.

  1. for me it seems like labyrinths, hard to recognize, easy to get lost :/ the ambiance inside the metro trains is quite calm but can feel the tense for those who has foreign looks. but surely it's a once-in-a-life-time experience that deserves a visit.
